Praise

Oh that men would praise the LORD for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! Psalm 107:8

I will praise Thee, O Lord my God, with all my heart: and will glorify Thy name for evermore. Psalm 86:12

By Him, therefore, let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name. Hebrews 13:15

Praises to the Saviour give,
He who died that we might live,
For His love, so great, so free,
Praise His Name eternally.

When our hearts were steeped in sin,
Vile and wretched were within,
Jesus left the throne above,
Came to show the Father's love.

Oh how wondrous was His grace!
He who took the sinner's place,
Jesus offered "Lo, I come,"
All to bear the sinner home.

Jesus died on Calv'ry's tree,
There to set the sinner free,
All who on His Name believe,
Everlasting life receive.

What a debt to Him we owe!
Gladly may our praises flow,
Let our cheerful voices raise,
Loud thanksgivings, songs of praise.

Praise the Father and the Son,
That redemption's work is done,
Magnify that precious Name,
Christ, the Lamb of God, who came.

Worthy is the Lamb once slain,
Praise and magnify His Name,
Laud and honour may we bring,
To our Saviour, Priest and King.

Glory unto Jesus be,
He who died to set us free,
Let us worship and adore,
Praise His Name forevermore.
  —by Lois Beckwith

From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD's name is to be praised. Psalm 113:3

Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. Rev. 5:12

Jesus, Wonderful Lord!

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Born among cattle, in poverty sore,
Living in meekness by Galilee's shore,
Dying in shame as the wicked ones swore:
Jesus, wonderful Lord!

Weary, yet He is the world's only rest,
Hungry and thirsty with plenty has blest,
Tempted He promises grace for each test:
Jesus, wonderful Lord!

Friend of the friendless, betrayed and denied,
Help of the weak, in Gethsemane cried,
Light of the world, in gross darkness He died:
Jesus, wonderful Lord!

Chorus:
Wonderful, wonderful Jesus!
He is my friend, true to the end;
He gave Himself to redeem me—
Jesus, wonderful Lord!

I Heard the Voice of Jesus Say

Come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink. He that believeth on Me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. John 7:37b-38

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.  John 8:12

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
 "Come unto Me and rest;
Lay down, thou weary one, lay down
 Thy head upon My breast."
I came to Jesus as I was,
 Weary, and worn, and sad;
I found in Him a resting place,
 And He has made me glad.

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
 "Behold, I freely give
The living water; thirsty one,
 Stoop down and drink, and live."
I came to Jesus , and I drank
 Of that life-giving stream;
My thirst was quenched, my soul revived,
 And now I live in Him.

I heard the voice of Jesus say,
 "I am this dark world's Light;
Look unto Me, thy morn shall rise,
  And all thy day be bright."
I looked to Jesus, and I found
 In Him my Star, my Sun,
And in that Light of life I'll walk,
 Till traveling days are done.

When the Saviour Came My Way

For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 1 Timothy 1:15

You ask me why I love the Lord.
Well, friend, just let me say
Life was not worth living
'Till the Saviour came my way.

You say I lose so much in life.
Yes, friend, PRAISE GOD, I do.
I lose the sin and sorrow
Which was all I ever knew.

I lose the days spent seeking joy,
The long nights full of tears;
I lose the heavy burdens,
Which I carried through the years.

But friend, I would not have them back
For all that you could pay.
My life was not worth living
'Till the Saviour came my way.

I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10b

O Christ, in Thee My Soul Hath Found

O LORD our Lord, how excellent is Thy Name in all the earth! Psalm 8:9
I will bless the LORD at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1

O Christ, in Thee my soul hath found
 And found in Thee alone,
The peace, the joy I sought so long,
 The bliss till now unknown.

I sighed for rest and happiness,
 I yearned for them, not Thee;
But while I passed my Saviour by,
 His love laid hold of me.

Now none but Christ can satisfy,
 None other name for me;
There's love, and life, and lasting joy,
 Lord Jesus, found in Thee.

When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world. Galatians 6:14

But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord. Philippians 3:7-8a

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God;
All the vain things that charm me most--
I sacrifice them to His blood.

See, from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down;
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small:
Love so amazing, so Divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.
  —by Isaac Watts

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 12:1

§

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name:
That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth:
And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:5-11

Of this incomparable One it is said that "in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God"; yet such an One, who thus occupied the highest place of Deity in company with the Father and the Spirit, "was made flesh, and dwelt among us."
He who is from everlasting to everlasting was born of a woman and died on a cross.
He who according to the mind of the Spirit is Wonderful, was spit upon by men.
He who, by the same mind, is Counsellor is rejected of men.
He who is The Mighty God is crucified in abject weakness.
He who is The everlasting Father, is a Son who learned obedience by the things which He suffered.
He who is the Prince of Peace must Himself tread the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God, for the "day of vengeance" must yet be in His heart and He must yet break the nations with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces as a potter's vessel.
He who said, "I am among you as he that serveth," also said, "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."
He who is the chaste, wooing Lover of the Canticles is the King of glory who is mighty in battle.
He who created all things occupied an infant's cradle.
He who is holy, harmless, undefiled, and separate from sinners was made to be sin in behalf of others.
He who was the Bread of Life was Himself hungry.
He who was the giver of the supernatural Water of Life was Himself thirsty.
He who was God's Gift of Life to a lost world was Himself dead.
He who was dead is alive forevermore.

O for a Thousand Tongues

O for a thousand tongues to sing
 My great Redeemer's praise,
The glories of my God and King,
 The triumphs of His grace.

My gracious Master and my God,
 Assist me to proclaim,
To spread thru all the earth abroad
 The honors of Thy name.

Jesus! the name that charms our fears,
 That bids our sorrows cease,
'Tis music in the sinner's ears,
 'Tis life and health and peace.

He breaks the pow'r of canceled sin,
 He sets the pris'ner free,
His blood can make the foulest clean,
 His blood availed for me.

Hear Him, ye deaf; His praise, ye dumb,
  Your loosened tongues employ;
Ye blind, behold your Saviour come;
  And leap, ye lame, for joy.

Jesus Satisfies

O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Psalm 95:1

For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100:5

There's not a craving of the mind
 Which Jesus cannot fill;
There's not a pleasure I would seek
 Aside from His dear will.
From hour to hour He fills my soul
 With peace and perfect love;
While rich supplies for every need
 He sendeth from above.

The joys which this vain world bestows,
 Have lost their charms for me;
Once I enjoyed its trifles too,
 But Jesus set me free.
Its joys will perish in a day,
 Its pleasures quickly fly;
Its mirth like mists will pass away,
 And all its honors die.

He stilled the angry tempest's power,
 Which raged within my heart;
And bade each sinful passion there,
 To speedily depart.
Yes, Jesus is my all in all,
 He satisfies my soul,
For me he died on Calvary,
 And now he makes me whole.

Yes, Jesus is my Saviour dear,
 My Rock, my Strength, my Song;
My Wisdom, and my Refuge safe,
 To Jesus I belong.
He is my Advocate with God,
 My Way, my Life, my Light,
My Great Physician and my Friend,
 My Guide by day and night.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1

§

He Satisfies

My people shall be satisfied with My goodness, saith the LORD. Jeremiah 31:14b

With lovingkindness to His own,
  With mercies full and free,
The blessed Saviour satisfies,
  He satisfieth me.

He satisfies the longing soul,
  His hungry sheep are fed,
To pastures green He leadeth them,
  By waters still they're led.

With marrow and with fatness, and
  With honey from the Rock,
The Shepherd ever satisfies,
  And careth for His flock.

My people shall be satisfied,
  Tis God who speaks the Word,
My goodness and My mercies will
  Be with them, saith the Lord.

For riches cannot satisfy,
  Nor gold nor silver can,
'Tis only Jesus satisfies,
  And fills the heart of man.

He satisfies continually,
  Each moment of the day,
His love can fill your longing soul,
  And care for you alway.

Oh yes! My Saviour satisfies,
  As nothing else can do;
The Chiefest of ten thousand, He
  Can satisfy you too.

The altogether lovely One,
  O won't you taste and see?
For Jesus ever satisfies,
  He satisfieth me.

O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him. Psalm 34:8

§

Thou Mighty To Save

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. Colossians 2:9

O Jesus, my Lord and Saviour,
 Who gavest Thy life for me,
No room in my heart for pleasures
 That have not their trust in Thee;
Earth has no abiding city,
 Not here is my place of rest,
I seek for a brighter country,
 A home with the pure and blest.

The world like a dream will vanish,
 The hope like the years decay,
Its beauties like dewy blossoms
 Will wither and pass away;
But Thou wilt abide unchanging,
 My sure defense wilt be;
O Jesus my Lord and Saviour,
 I'm trusting alone in Thee.

O what are the toils and labors,
 The crosses that now I bear.
Compared with the crown immortal
 Laid up for my soul to wear?
'Twill matter to me but little,
 What conflicts I have passed,
When, after the strife is ended,
 I rest at Thy feet at last.

Chorus:
And O, when my course is finished,
And victor's palm I wave,
To Thee will I give the glory,
O Thou, who art mighty to save,
To Thee will I give the glory,
O Thou, who art mighty to save.
  —by Fanny Crosby

Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them. Hebrews 7:25

§

Because He First Loved Me

We love Him, because He first loved us. 1 John 4:19

I'm trusting, only trusting
In Jesus day by day:
I feel His presence nearer,
While pressing on my way;
My soul is full of glory,
And this my song shall be:
I love my blessed Saviour,
Because He first loved me.

I'm trusting, only trusting
In Jesus ev'ry hour,
Who saves me by His mercy,
And keeps me by His power;
I'll publish His salvation
Wherever I may be;
With all my heart I love Him,
Because He first loved me.

I'm trusting, only trusting
My Saviour's hand to guide;
I know His grace sufficient,
And ask for naught beside;
My soul is on the mountain,
My home beyond the sea:
O bless the Lord! I love Him,
Because He first loved me.

Chorus:
Because He first loved me.
I love Him, I love Him,
Because He first loved me:
I trust Him, I trust Him,
Wherever I may be.
My soul is full of glory,
I sing because I'm free;
I love my blessed Saviour,
Because He first loved me.
  —by Fanny Crosby

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 1 John 4:9

§

Under His Wings

He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust. Psalm 91:4

Under His wings I am safely abiding,
Tho the night deepens and tempests are wild;
Still I can trust Him-- I know He will keep me,
He has redeemed me and I am His child.

Under His wings, what a refuge in sorrow!
How the heart yearningly turns to His rest!
Often when earth has no balm for my healing,
There I find comfort and there I am blest.

There will I hide till life's trials are o'er;
Sheltered, protected, no evil can harm me,
Resting in Jesus I'm safe evermore.

Under His wings, under His wings,
Who from His love can sever?
Under His wings, my soul shall abide,
Safely abide forever.
  —by William O. Cushing

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

The Rest of the Way

He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hebrews 13:5b

O fathomless mercy, O infinite grace
In humble thanksgiving the road I re-trace
Thou never hast failed me, my Strength and my Stay;
To whom should I turn for the rest of the way?

Through danger, through darkness, by day and by night
Thou ever has guided and guided aright
I have trusted in Thee and peacefully lay
My hand in Thy hand for the rest of the way.

Thy cross all my refuge, Thy blood all my plea
None other I need, blessed Jesus, but Thee
I fear not the shadows at the close of life's day
For Thou wilt go with me the rest of the way.

For this God is our God for ever and ever: He will be our guide even unto death. Psalm 48:14

The Best Friend of All

Unto Him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood ... to Him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. Revelation 1:5-6

How sweet the sunshine after rain,
 And sweet the rest that follows pain,
But sweeter far His face to see,
 The Son of God who died for me.

But not until He calls me home,
 No, not till then will I behold
The Saviour who did die for me,
 And bore my sins on Calvary.

He suffered, bled and died alone,
 Alone, alone for you and me,
Could I for shame reject such love,
 A sacrifice from God above?

I do accept His sacrifice,
 Will serve Him now for evermore.
For only such a Friend as he,
 Could pardon, cleanse and make me free.

If you receive His pardoning grace,
 You'll meet Him yonder face to face,
And have a home in Heaven above
 Where all is joy and peace and love.

Then when around God's throne we meet
 And lowly bow at Jesus' feet,
A song of praise we'll ever sing
 To Christ, our Saviour, Lord and King.

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created. Revelation 4:11

§

I Must Tell Jesus

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and He shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22

I must tell Jesus all of my trials,
I cannot bear these burdens alone;
In my distress He kindly will help me,
He ever loves and cares for His own.

I must tell Jesus all of my troubles,
He is a kind, compassionate Friend;
If I but ask Him, He will deliver,
Make of my troubles quickly an end.

Tempted and tried, I need a great Saviour,
One who can help my burdens to bear;
I must tell Jesus, I must tell Jesus,
He all my cares and sorrows will share.

O how the world to evil allures me!
O how my heart is tempted to sin!
I must tell Jesus, and He will help me
Over the world the vict'ry to win.

Chorus:
I must tell Jesus!
I must tell Jesus!
I cannot bear my burdens alone;
I must tell Jesus!
I must tell Jesus!
Jesus can help me, Jesus alone.

Jesus Sees The Sorrow

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of His saints. Psalm 116:15

Jesus sees the sorrow
 And grief within your heart.
Jesus knows the sadness,
 That hurts you as you part
From someone who is dearer
 Than many here below--
Christ understands the heartache,
 For all things doth He know.
That someone now is resting,
 Beyond earth's pains and sighs,
You'll meet again in heaven,
 Or greet him in the skies.

What A Friend We Have In Jesus

And He spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint. Luke 18:1

Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17

What a Friend we have in Jesus,
 All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
 Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
 O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
 Everything to God in prayer!

Have we trials and temptations?
 Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged--
 Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
 Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness--
 Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden,
 Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge--
 Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
 Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He'll take and shield thee--
 Thou wilt find a solace there.

Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee. Isaiah 26:3

O Thou that hearest prayer, unto Thee shall all flesh come. Psalm 65:2

My Jesus, I Love Thee

Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Timothy 1:17

My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine--
For Thee all the follies of sin I resign;
My gracious Redeemer, my Saviour art Thou;
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me
And purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree;
I love Thee for wearing the thorns on Thy brow:
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

I'll love Thee in life, I will love Thee in death,
And praise Thee as long as Thou lendest me breath;
And say when the death-dew lies cold on my brow.
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

In mansions of glory and endless delight,
I'll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright;
I'll sing with the glittering crown on my brow,
If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now.

Therefore, my beloved brethren,

Herein Is Love

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:10

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Please take a moment to consider the love of God which is manifested in the person of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. God sent His Son into the world to be your Saviour from sin. God gave His Son to die upon the Cross and to shed His blood that you need not perish. God offers you forgiveness of sins and everlasting life through His Son. "Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures ... He was buried and ... He rose again the third day according to the scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3-4) The resurrection of Christ is proof that God is fully satisfied with the work His Son has done, and now He can "be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus." (Romans 3:26)

Herein is love! But many choose not to receive God's love, and reject His gift of everlasting life through faith in Jesus Christ. Yet apart from the life which God offers you in His Son, you are dead in trespasses and sins and shall die, for "all have sinned" and the "wages of sin is death." (Romans 3:23; 6:23) For the same God who says, "he that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life," also says that "he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him." (John 3:36)

Be not deceived. You do not earn salvation by "good" conduct, membership in any organization, adherence to any creed, or by any ritual or sacrament. Salvation is a free gift of God which you receive through personal faith in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:8,9) Jesus Christ is "the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14:6) No one comes to God but by Him. No one knows the truth apart from Him. No one has life except through Him. Won't you believe this in your heart and call upon the Lord Jesus to save you? For "if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9)

God in His love and grace offers you salvation from sin and death. Your response to God determines whether you will spend eternity in heaven or in hell. Have you believed God and received His love through faith in Jesus Christ? If not, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and receive Him as your Saviour, and you shall be saved from sin and death and have everlasting life.

Jesus Died Your Soul To Save

For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Jesus died your soul to save;
 For your life He freely gave
All He had in heaven above,
 Just to show His wondrous love.

Wondrous love so rich, so free--
 Can it truly be for me?
Yes, dear friend, 'tis true, 'tis true,
 All Christ did, He did for you.
